Medicare Supplements

Retirement Planning

Medicare Supplement plans are offered as private supplements and pay some of the health care costs that Medicare doesn’t cover such as copayments and deductibles. These plans are available to Medicare beneficiaries in Florida and throughout the United States who are enrolled in Medicare Part A and B. There are many Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans to choose from so it is helpful to meet with a qualified professional.

Medicare will pay its share of their approved amount for a covered health care cost. Then your Medigap policy pays its share. Every Medigap policy must follow State and Federal laws designed to protect you, and it must be clearly identified as “Medicare Supplement Insurance.” Insurance companies can only sell a “standardized” plan identified by letters A through N. All standardized policies must offer the same basic benefits, no matter which insurance company sells it. Cost and service are the only differences between policies sold by different insurance companies.

It is important to understand your Medicare coverage. Traditional Medicare coverage is split into three parts. Medicare Part A provides coverage for hospital and inpatient care. Medicare B provides coverage for out-patient and doctor’s office visits. Medicare Part D is the final part of traditional Medicare and helps seniors with the cost of prescription drugs, but it is delivered through private insurance companies instead of through the Medicare program. Are you wondering about Medicare Part C ? It is a separate program that is also called Florida Medicare Advantage. It completely replaces Medicare with a private insurance coverage and does not require one of the Florida Medicare supplements.
